About Dry Salt Therapy

How a Halogenerator Makes Salt “Breathable”
A halogenerator is the device that makes modern salt caves work. Its job is to turn solid salt into microscopic dry particles that can stay suspended in the air long enough to be inhaled.

It Grinds Salt Into Microscopic Particles
Inside the machine is a precision grinder that crushes pharmaceutical-grade salt into extremely fine particles.

The goal is to produce particles typically between:
1–5 microns in size

For reference:
-
A human hair ≈ 70 microns
-
Halotherapy particles ≈ 1–5 microns
That means the particles are about 15–70 times smaller than a hair.

Why Particle Size Matters

Particle size determines how deeply salt can travel into the respiratory system.
Particle Size Where It Goes
10+ microns Nose and throat
5–10 microns Upper airway
1–5 microns Bronchi and lungs
Halogenerators are designed to produce the 1–5 micron range, which allows particles to move deeper into the airways.
The Salt Is Blown Into the Room as a Dry Aerosol
After grinding, the machine uses airflow to disperse the particles into the room as a dry salt aerosol.

Because the particles are so small, they:
-
Stay suspended in the air
-
Circulate around the room
-
Are inhaled naturally while breathing
-

This is very different from steam or humidifiers — halotherapy is completely dry.
Why the Air Feels Different
The salt particles can interact with moisture in the respiratory tract. In clinical and spa settings, halotherapy is often used to support people with:

-
Seasonal allergies
-
Sinus congestion
-
Asthma
-
Bronchitis
-
General airway irritation
-

Salt particles may help draw moisture into mucus, making it thinner and easier to clear.
Why Real Halotherapy Rooms Use Halogenerators

Just sitting in a room with salt blocks on the walls does not produce the same effect.
The therapeutic component comes from:
Aerosolized salt particles in the air, not just salt surfaces.

That’s why authentic halotherapy rooms use a medical-grade halogenerator to control:
-
particle size
-
salt concentration
-
air distribution
Interesting Facts

Modern halotherapy is based on observations from salt miners in Poland in the 1800s. Doctors noticed miners working in salt mines had exceptionally healthy lungs compared with other miners exposed to coal or silica dust.

This discovery eventually led to the development of salt therapy chambers in Eastern Europe, which inspired the salt cave concept used today.
